Bonfire Night HoneycombNov 04, 2016
Tomorrow night we'll be celebrating bonfire night by going and enjoying some fireworks. We thought we should make up a yummy treat that we can nibble on whilst we're watching. You can quickly make up a batch of this honeycomb tonight ready to enjoy tomorrow. Once you've smashed up your honeycomb into smaller pieces you can dip them in melted chocolate to make it even tastier! Ingredients (makes 1 slab) 200g caster sugar 125g golden syrup 2 tsp bicarbonate of soda Method Grease a square tin (20cm x 20cm) with butter. Place the caster sugar and golden syrup into a deep saucepan and heat gently until all the sugar has dissolved (you can stir the mixture). Keep the heat low enough so the mixture doesn't bubble. Once all the sugar has melted, turn up the heat and let the mixture bubble until it turns amber in colour. This will happen quite quickly. Take off the heat and add the bicarbonate of soda. Stir quickly to mix it in and once it is bubbling and all the bicarb. has disappeared pour it into your prepared tin. Be carefully as the mixture will be hot and bubbling. Leave to set for about an hour or until the honey comb is hard and then smash into pieces. It may seem to be stuck in the tin but just start to break it in the tin and it'll soon all come out. Dip into melted chocolate if you want to. We would love to see your honeycomb or other bonfire baking photos. To show us, tag us in your picture on Instagram using @bakesbox or #bakesbox.
