In Season - RaspberriesJun 20, 2016
Its great to celebrate and enjoy the fabulous foods we grow in the UK. This time of the year in the garden our fruit and veg is just beginning to appear and we can enjoy produce such as broad beans, peas, asparagus, strawberries, gooseberries and raspberries. The raspberry is a fruit we can buy all year round but it definitely tastes best in the summer when its been grown locally and picked fresh. These berries are full of vitamin C and high in fibre so eat as many as you like. They are all over British menus in the summer due to their sweet, juicy flavour. Did you know they come in all sorts of colours? You can grow gold ones which are meant to have the sweetest flavour. At Bakes HQ we’ve been searching for our favourite recipes which are based around the fabulous raspberry. Chocolate and raspberry is a classic combination which we all love. This tart uses these two simple ingredients to create something spectacular. You get a little tartness from the lemon and lots of sweetness from the raspberries and meringue. When you turn this cake out the pan all the juices will soak down through the cake rather then being lost. It also looks really vivid with the bright raspberries. They look every so pretty and would be a perfect addition to an afternoon tea. Credit - www.halfbakedharvest.com I’ve never made a crepe cake but this recipe is certainly one I’m going to try. As well as being filled with our lovely raspberries, it also is flavoured with a hint of rose making it perfect for summer. If you are gluten free this could be a bake for you as the crepes are made with almond flour.
